APM CNC TOOL SETTER High quality APM tool setter accurately establishes tool length offsets for CNC machines. Tool steel gage pad, spindle and base. Stainless steel hardware. Grooved base made of steel (not aluminum). Black oxide treated to prevent rust, hardened 58-62 RC and then precision grind. Steel contact face is 2″ diameter, larger than most tool setters. From touch to 3″ zero approximately .050 then another 3/8″ of over travel for those “oops” when setting tools. This will save those expensive cutters. If gauge is limited all the way down, it won’t damage the indicator. The spindle will limit solid to the base and not against the indicator. This is only found with APM tool setters. Most other z axis tool setters sold will be destroyed if travel is more than 1/8″. Lots of clearance for cutters with irregular shape (see the picture of slotting cutter). This allows you set tools easily without damage to tool setter or cutting tool. Grooved sides to prevent tool from slipping out of your hand. Large 2.2″ easy to read indicator face. Indicator can be adjusted to any rotation for the best view. You can set it flat, opposite 45 degree of the picture shown and use your other hand to pick up the tool. The indicator can be set at any rotation. Loosen the top 1/4-20 set screw and rotate indicator to desired view and retighten the indicator in place. Once the indicator is locked, the tool setter wont lose zero. Recheck 3″ zero after adjusting view angle and set dial. Easy calibration check using 1-2-3 blocks or height gauge. Gage graduations 0.001″. Gage repeatability 0.0002″. Body made from 6061 T6 aluminum. Twin bearings and precision grind on spindle. Manufactured in USA These were inspired because of the problems with other z axis tool setters. Even though they worked, operators had to be careful when setting tools. The issues included: short travel of the gage pad causing cutters to hit gage body, aluminum base became damaged easily, aluminum base with small magnets collected metal chips, no clearance for odd shaped tools, poor viewing angle of indicator. APM tool setter has found that solution and also added some awesome features and design.
